Cindi was a great midwife. I was probably the biggest pain in the ass patient she has ever had but she dealt with it well. I have very little fear in life and faith beyond words so having a baby for the first time was not as scary as some would have you believe.
To be honest the biggest struggle during pregnancy for me was all the opinions and declarations of how things were going to play out for me. I would say that's also the biggest struggle of being a parent.
What's the old saying? Opinions are like...... wink emoticon
You are your own person, you can have what you say and their story doesn't have to be your story, just remember that.
I had a pretty easy going pregnancy with a bit of motion sickness in my first trimester. We chose to do no ultra sound technologies and very little extra testing. It was so nice to have everything presented as a choice instead of a "mandate" that doesn't really exist. Cindi was good about explaining each test, the reason its recommend and letting us make our decision with no judgment. I worked up until the week before my due date and on his due date weighing in at 6lbs 10oz and 19inches my son was born. We had a great natural home birth that went exceptionally fast, so fast we ended up canceling our birthing tub. Cindi and her assistant Tiffany were there the entire time, coaching, encouraging and monitoring. I requested a more hands off approach but for those that want a more hands on, they work with all kinds.
It was an awesome experience and if we choose to have more children I would definitely go this route again. It's a very personal experience and you are able to be with your new born and hold them in the comfort of your own home and your own bed without someone whisking them off right away.
If you are unsure of what a midwife is, I encourage you to do some research on your options for giving birth because a midwife is absolutely a wonderful option. A great documentary and 4 part series is thebusinessofbeingborn(dot)com I would definitely recommend these films to anyone planning to start a family.
Whatever you choose, giving birth is a pretty cool thing. Our bodies are amazing!
